Estuary monitoring season

blue sky over the Georges River

Georges Riverkeeper’s estuary monitoring program has begun for this sampling season. Seventeen sites are sampled once a month from late spring to early autumn, from the mouth of the river to the end of the estuary at Liverpool Weir. Information on turbidity, temperature and Chlorophyll a are collected and analysed to assist in our understanding of the estuary’s water quality. The first estuary monitoring run was completed in November, and we were greeted by a stunning day which is always appreciated when in the field for nine hours. Georges Riverkeeper’s previous River Health Report Card showed that the estuary's overall grade was a ‘B’ over the monitoring season. Hopefully, this can be maintained or improved upon this time around.
