Georges Riverkeeper’s Annual General Meeting on 20 November 2025 reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to collaborative river stewardship, bringing together councils, agencies and community representatives dedicated to the health of the Georges River.

The meeting endorsed an updated Executive Group for 2025/26, combining returning participants, a newly appointed Chairperson, and a new Vice Chair to support collective action across the catchment.

2025/26 Executive Group:

  • Chairperson: Cr David Walsh (City of Canterbury Bankstown)
  • Vice Chairperson: Cr Chris Saravinovski (Bayside Council), new to the Executive Group
  • Second Vice Chairperson: Leanne Niblock (Sydney Water), continuing
  • Treasurer: Cr Matthew Allison (Georges River Council), continuing

Chairperson Cr David Walsh said the updated team builds on established collaboration while welcoming new insights:

“This Executive Group brings together experienced hands and fresh perspectives. It’s a strong foundation for the work ahead as we continue our on-ground work and advocacy for the Georges River and the communities who depend on it.”

Program Manager Nell Graham welcomed the 2025/26 Executive Group:
“The blend of continuity and new leadership is a real strength. Each member brings deep commitment to the catchment, and we’re excited to carry forward our programs with their guidance.”

Reflecting on the past term, the outgoing Chairperson, Cr Nikolovski (Sutherland Shire Council), stated: “The past two years I was Chair, incorporating the current term, was one of significant transition for Georges Riverkeeper as we moved to a new Host Council (Liverpool), expanded the team, registered as a charity and secured significant grant funding. I am proud and have strong confidence the expanded team will make significant inroads in the Riverkeeper's key objectives.”

The newly endorsed Executive Group extends its thanks to Cr Nikolovski, who has served in varying roles on the Executive since 2022, and to Member Councils and Sydney Water in addition to the stakeholders and community members on the Committee for their ongoing commitment and collaboration.
