Georges Riverkeeper is pleased to announce the release of its Strategic Plan 2026-2030, setting a clear direction for the next four years of collaborative action to protect and improve the health of the Georges River catchment. The Plan builds on the strong foundations established over the past eight years while responding to new environmental challenges and opportunities.

Developed in partnership with our seven Member Councils and Financial Partner Sydney Water, the Strategic Plan reaffirms Georges Riverkeeper's aspirational goal of best practice environmental management for a liveable urban river. Over the coming years, our work will continue to focus on science-driven catchment management, stronger collaboration with councils and meaningful community engagement, recognising that a healthy river is essential to healthy, thriving communities.

The Plan will guide Georges Riverkeeper through an important interim period while the Georges River Estuary Coastal Management Plan is developed. It also introduces an increased emphasis on litter prevention, alongside the organisation's five long-standing program areas: Operations Management, Catchment Actions, River Health & Research, Stormwater & Sewage, and Education & Capacity Building.

The Strategic Plan recognises that urbanisation and stormwater remain the greatest challenges facing the Georges River catchment. By working across council boundaries and integrating river health into broader planning and decision-making, Georges Riverkeeper aims to protect biodiversity, improve water quality, enhance liveability and safeguard the river for future generations.

The Georges Riverkeeper Strategic Plan 2026-2030 is now available to read and provides the framework that will guide our programs, partnerships and priorities over the next four years.
